“If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” (Quran, 3:31)
“If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” (Quran, 3:31)
The world can be both daunting and exhausting – and oftentimes we remain lost in our everyday lives of either routines or uncertainties. As Muslims, therefore, we must constantly take faith in God – the only one source of stability and strength that we can take comfort in.
In an effort to help rekindle and remember the strength of Allah and the love we should be expressing towards His mercy, here are 10 verses from the Holy Quran on strength, faith, and commitment towards what really matters in life:
1. “Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity.” (Quran, 2:286)
This verse reminds us that despite whatever hardships are thrown our way, we must always remember that each test given to us was designed specifically for us. At the end of the day, nothing is given to us that we cannot handle – meaning that if Allah believes and knows you can overcome whatever challenge you are facing, you too should believe that you can overcome it.
2. “And from wherever you go out [for prayer], turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you [believers] may be, turn your faces toward it in order that the people will not have any argument against you, except for those of them who commit wrong; so fear them not but fear Me. And [it is] so I may complete My favor upon you and that you may be guided.” (Quran, 2:150)
By reminding us that we should not fear anyone or anything in this world except for Allah Himself, this verse remains one of the most powerful in its focus on patience, devotion, and commitment. Stating to “fear them not but fear Me”, Allah tells us directly that we should not worry about what others may say about us in this world – what matters most is how strong we stay in our devotion towards God.
3. “Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah intends for a people ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron.” (Quran, 13:11)
Reminding us that at the end of the day we are in charge of changing ourselves for the better, this verse stands as a beautiful example of the power and strength we all hold within ourselves. We can only find and connect with Allah from ourselves, and we can only continue on a path of righteousness and belief within ourselves as well – and to find this strength requires both our own dedication and commitment as well as faith in Allah’s power and mercy as well.
4. “Is the reward for good [anything] but good? So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?” (Quran, 55:60-61)
This powerful verse from the Holy Quran is simple and yet incredibly beautiful – by asking “which of the favors of your Lord would you deny”, this remains as a direct question unto the believers on how strong their faith remains, despite all the trails and tests of the world. If we remain strong in our belief and commitment to do good, then only good will come back to us inshallah.
5. “And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient…Who, when disaster strikes them, say, ‘Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.'” (Quran, 2:155-156)
Another beautiful reminder to stay strong in the face of adversary, this verse explains that no matter what, we will all be tested in this world by Allah. What matters most is how we react to it, and how we remember to stay true in our faith and devotion to God.
6. “And how many a prophet [fought and] with him fought many religious scholars. But they never lost assurance due to what afflicted them in the cause of Allah, nor did they weaken or submit. And Allah loves the steadfast.” (Quran, 3:146)
By stating “Allah loves the steadfast”, the Holy Quran tells us that by being patient and remaining strong in our faith, we can inshallah be rewarded by Allah in the end. To not weaken one’s faith and to remain steadfast in all the trials we face in this world can be difficult, but as this verse reminds us, we must continue to do so out of our love for God.
7. “Do the people think that they will be left to say, ‘We believe’ and they will not be tried?” (Quran, 29:2)
Standing as a sharp reminder on the power of Allah, this verse directly tells us that we should all be expected to be tested from Allah Himself – especially those who claim to be believers. Knowing that we will be tested, and knowing that we must acknowledge the hardship of life in order to truly build up our morals and faith is something guaranteed – and therefore we must face it head-on.
8. “For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease…Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease…So when you have finished [your duties], then stand up [for worship]. And to your Lord direct [your] longing.” (Quran, 94:5-8)
This verse will always remain an inspiring part of the Quran – often quoted but not so often implemented into one’s life, this is a powerful reminder on the importance of understanding hardship. Knowing that your strength will come from being able and willing to combat the different hardships we face in life, it remains more important than ever to remember to stay steadfast in “direct longing” for Allah and Allah alone.
9. “Say, [O Muhammad], ‘If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.'” (Quran, 3:31)
What better way to remain strong than to always remember the love and mercy of Allah? This verse stands out as a timely reminder on the rewards and goodness one will receive (inshallah), from simply following and believing wholeheartedly in Allah and the Prophet Muhammad. Receiving the love and mercy from Allah should always be at the forefront of everything we do in this life here on earth.
10. “Say, ‘Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector.’ And upon Allah let the believers rely.” (Quran, 9:51)
By stating, “And upon Allah let the believers rely”, this verse reminds us that we can always, and should always, put our full reliance on God and on the belief that at the end of all days, we will always be safe in His protection.
