Children can be one of the reasons parents are granted paradise.

The relationship between parents and their children is one that cannot be compared to anything else in the world. In the Holy Quran, Allah (swt) prescribes the following: “And your Lord has decreed that you do not worship except Him, and to your parents, [show] good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age while with you, say not to them [so much as], ‘uff,‘ and do not repel them, and speak to them a noble word.” [17:23]. The Holy Quran exalts the status of parents, and hadiths do too; here are some great ones for everyone to take in, with an insight on how the child plays an important role in the relationship between them.

1 . The virtue of having children

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “For every tree, there is a fruit and the fruit of the heart is the child.” [Kanzul Ummal]

2 . The prosperity of man

Ali ibn Hussain Al-Sajjad (peace be upon him) said: “It is part of the prosperity of a man that he has offspring who can be an aid to him.” [Usool Al-Kafi]

3 . Granted the highest heavens

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “A Muslim whose three children die before the age of puberty will be granted Paradise by Allah due to his mercy for them.” [Sahih Bokhari]

4 . On female children

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “If anyone has a female child, and does not bury her alive, or slight her, or prefer his children (i.e. the male ones) to her, Allah will bring him into Paradise.” [Sunan Abu Dawood]

5 . The love of a child

Jaffar ibn Mohammed Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: “Allah (swt) has mercy on a servant because of his strong love for his child.” [Usool Al-Kafi]

6 . A righteous child

Jaffar ibn Mohammed Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: “Allah’s inheritance to His pious servant is a righteous child who repents for him.” [Makarim Al-Akhlaaq]

7 . Holding responsibility

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock.  The ruler is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock.  A man is the shepherd of his family and is responsible for his flock.  A woman is the shepherd of her husband’s household and is responsible for her flock.” [Sahih Muslim]

8 . Being fair and equal

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Maintain justice among your children in gifts, just like you would like them to be just with you in goodness and affection.” [Kanzul Ummal]
