What Does the Zakat Foundation of America Do?

In the United States alone, the Zakat Foundation of America has provided disaster relief to over 1 million Americans. We were in Beirut to provide food and clean up when a blast decimated the city. We are in Pakistan feeding families hot meals after it was devastated with flash floods. We are in Sudan providing emergency relief from flooding. Wherever disaster strikes, we are there

What do you think of when you hear the name Zakat Foundation of America?

So often, when people hear about the Zakat Foundation of America, they immediately think of Zakat (charity, one of the main pillars of Islam). But did you know that we not only use Zakat to help people, but we also use Sadaqah, Sadaqah Jariyah, and other donations? We use these gifts to provide relief from the unseen suffering in the world.

In the words of our Executive Director, Halil Demir: “In this world, so many things go unseen.”

There are families, orphans, widows, refugees, and the disenfranchised all over the world who don’t have a voice. We use our work to help them not only be seen, but heard. We listen. We listen to them day and night, whenever and wherever.

Here are just a few examples of what the Zakat Foundation of America does and what you can accomplish when you trust your gifts of charity with us. Get to know us and what we do:

Zakat Foundation Feeds the Hungry

Around the world, 690 million people go hungry. These are people just like us. It is easy to see a statistic, but we see the faces of the poor hungry in the field. We need to help them and listen to their stories. With our Food Security Program, 8 million meals are distributed to the poor and hungry EVERY YEAR.

We are an international humanitarian organization that gives back to our local community, too. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have distributed free, nourishing boxes of food to 130 cities in the United States alone. This year, that has meant 5 million pounds of food aid to the food insecure in the United States.

Zakat Foundation Provides Emergency Relief

In the United States alone, the Zakat Foundation of America has provided disaster relief to over 1 million Americans. We were in Beirut to provide food and clean up when a blast decimated the city. We are in Pakistan feeding families hot meals after it was devastated with flash floods. We are in Sudan providing emergency relief from flooding. Wherever disaster strikes, we are there with emergency shelter, food, medical equipment, and life-saving medicines.

Zakat Foundation Cares for Orphans and Vulnerable Children

Our Orphan Sponsorship Program provides orphaned and vulnerable children with hope, love, and prospects for the future. We care for 75,000 orphans and vulnerable children every year! We provide these children with food, shelter, clothing, and educational opportunities so they can thrive and truly flourish.

We do all of these things and so much more. There are so many ways to change the world for the better. Learn more about the nine key programs we offer to help people across 80 countries in five continents. Get to know us at zakat.org.
