The UK’s longest established volunteer-run Muslim social network, the Emerald Network, has long campaigned and organized fundraising events during the holy month of Ramadan. This year, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, all fundraising campaigns have moved online – and this year’s innovative campaign is no less inspiring.
“The Art of Ramadan”, this year’s campaign, is bringing together Muslim artists from around the world for this holy month. Partnering with the leading art platform IslamicArtPrins.com, 30 different unique works have been made available online by some of the world’s most celebrated Muslim artists, including Aadil Abedi, Mohammed Ali MBE, Sandy Kurt, Margi Lake, Samira Mian, Samir Malik, and Saddiqa Juma.
This online fundraising campaign is giving us all the opportunity to own affordable and exclusive artwork – either for the home or as gifts. This incredible opportunity not only supports this creative initiative by Muslim artists, but also helps support a community of truly diverse and unique creatives. Spanning a wide range of cultures and locations from the US, UK, Netherlands, Qatar, and Russia, these incredible works of art not only celebrate diversity but also bring together a similar message of Islamic representation.
The genres in this collection are just as varied – from Arabic calligraphy to geometry to miniatures to abstract and photography, there is something to appeal to all. And at £49 per print, this fundraiser hopes to make each art piece affordable for all. 50% of the profits will go back to support these artists, many of whom have been heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The remaining 50% will go to Human Appeal’s COVID-19 Appeal4Funds – which is fundraising for food parcels for the UK’s elderly and vulnerable during this pandemic.
“The Art of Ramadan” will continue until the 31st of May, a week after Eid-ul-Fitr. Rooful Ali, the founder of the Emerald Network and contributing photographer, stated:
