5 Tips for the Last Ten Nights of Ramadan

The Prophet Muhammed is reported to have said: “Whoever does a voluntary good deed during this month [Ramadan], it is as if that person performed an obligatory good deed at another time, and whoever performs an obligatory good deed, it is as if that person performed 70 obligatory good deeds at another time.”

The last 10 nights of Ramadan are the best nights of the entire year. It is a time to maximize chances for God’s mercy, forgiveness, and blessings. The last 10 nights of Ramadan are often spent in acts of goodness.

Aisha, may God be pleased with her, said:

When the last 10 nights (of Ramadan) would begin, the Messenger of Allah, peace be on him, would keep awake at night (for prayer and devotion), awaken his family and prepare himself to be more diligent in worship.”

Embrace these nights so that they envelop you in blessings. Here are five tips to make the most of these special nights:

1. Make a Dua List

God loves and encourages us to seek him with dua (supplication to God). God says in the Quran:

“Now, if My servants ask you, [O Prophet,] about Me — then, indeed, I am near. I answer the call of the caller when he calls upon Me. Then let them all respond to Me and believe in Me, so they may be rightly guided” (Quran 2:186).

Zakat Foundation of America has compiled an excellent list of duas you can recite here.

2. Get Organized with Household Tasks

To make time for extra worship:

  1. Take time to prep Iftar and Suhoor in advance.
  2. Try to set aside time for the entire family to clean and declutter the home so you can spend more time in worship during these blessed nights.
  3. Make arrangements to put off more significant tasks until after Ramadan so you can worship with fewer worries.

3. Avoid Digital Distractions

If you want to make the most of these nights, avoid anything that wastes your time. This means taking a break from social media platforms, avoiding binge-watching on streaming devices, and falling into a YouTube rabbit hole.

4. Give More Charity

During Ramadan, the Prophet Muhammad, on him be peace, would give charity like a swift wind. He is the perfect example for humanity, and even he would increase his charity in Ramadan.

Follow his Prophetic example and be as generous as you can be. The rewards of giving charity in Ramadan are multiplied 70 times over.

Prophet Muhammad on him be peace, said:

Whoever does a voluntary good deed during this month [Ramadan], it is as if that person performed an obligatory good deed at another time, and whoever performs an obligatory good deed, it is as if that person performed 70 obligatory good deeds at another time.”

Laylatul Qadr is an even bigger opportunity to gain rewards for good deeds like charity. God says:

“The Night of Power is better than a thousand months” (Quran 97:3).

5. Recite More Quran

The month of Ramadan is the month the Quran was revealed. It is a gift God has given us, and there are immense rewards for reading the Quran. For every letter recited, we are rewarded. And those who aren’t fluent Arabic speakers and stumble over the words get even more reward.

The Prophet Muhammad, on him be peace, said:

“Verily, the one who recites the Quran beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have twice that reward.”

May we all be able to reap the benefits of these last 10 days in Ramadan.
