Throughout life, we experience a range of emotions. A study once identified almost 30 types of emotions and how they blend together to shape everyday life. 

Alongside emotions, our deen can fluctuate too, and both often interconnect. Sometimes we feel enthusiastic about acts of worship and sometimes exactly the opposite. Sometimes we are riding high with iman and other times we may indulge in a haram act and lose hope.

Here is a collection of verses to help us tackle some of the different emotional phases we go through.

1. Overwhelmed by Hardship

Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.”

(2:286)

Allah (SWT) will never set you up to fail! Amongst many things, the Earth is a place for growth. Allah (SWT) presents us with challenges to enable us to become a better version of ourselves.

2. Despairing God’s forgiveness

O servants of Mine who have acted recklessly against their own selves, do not despair of Allah’s mercy. Surely, Allah will forgive all sins…”

(39:53)

Satan wants you to lose all hope in being forgiven. Allah (SWT) loves nothing more than to hear you repent and return to Him!

3. Feeling Lonely

We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein.”

(50:16)

We’re only human and we do feel lonely from time to time. Even the Prophet did. People in our lives may leave us, yet Allah (SWT) is eagerly waiting for you to start a conversation!

4. Feeling Upset

Do not lose heart or despair – if you are true believers you have the upper hand.”

(3:139)

Worldly losses and betrayal are difficult to swallow but as part of the healing process, we should remind ourselves that living and dying with iman is the ultimate victory.

5. Feeling Anxious

Truly it is in the remembrance of Allah that hearts find peace.”

(13:28)

One of the names of Allah (SWT) is As-Salam, The Embodiment of Peace. Remembering Allah (SWT) regularly throughout the day will help us manage anxiety much better.
