Your Zakat is Our Amanah

“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing.” [4:58]

“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing.” [4:58]

“Amanah” refers to the concept of trust and responsibility. It is a fundamental ethical and moral principle that guides the behaviour and actions of Muslims.

Amanah is derived from the Arabic word “amana,” which means to trust, entrust, or rely upon someone.

The concept of Amanah is emphasised in the Quran and hadith, encompassing various aspects of human conduct and relationships. Muslims believe that all individuals have a responsibility to fulfill their obligations and commitments with sincerity and honesty, and to treat others with fairness and justice.

Amanah in The Holy Quran

“Indeed, we offered the trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, and they declined to bear it and feared it; but man [undertook to] bear it. Indeed, he was unjust and ignorant.” [33:72]

This verse highlights the idea that humans have been given a great responsibility, which is to fulfill their trust and obligations, both to God and his/her fellow human beings. A good-charactered Muslim is someone who fulfills the trust excellently, whether that is praying and fasting (responsibility to God) or giving back people their trust, or ensuring whatever they have entrusted you with reaches its destination or fulfills its purpose.

“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing.” [4:58]

This verse specifically instructs us to fulfill our trust and obligations to each other with justice and fairness. It highlights that trust and responsibility must be fulfilled with sincerity and honesty.

Amanah in Hadith Literature

“Verily, Allah commands you to fulfill the trusts which are entrusted to you, and to give back what you are entrusted with to the rightful owners.” – Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). [Bukhari]

This single hadith from the Prophet is enough to complement the Quranic verses. In short, if you promise to do something for someone, you must meet and exceed that expectation.

Why You Should Trust Islamic Relief With your Amanah

Amanah is a fundamental ethical and moral principle in Islam that is deeply rooted as a fundamental of being a Muslim.

And this is why amanah is the foundation that Islamic Relief UK has built itself upon.

We have been trusted to deliver Zakat donations since 1984, making us one of the longest-serving Muslim charities in the UK. We are on the front lines in over 30 countries, just like we have been with every major disaster since 1984, delivering food, water, and emergency relief to those in desperate need.

In 2022, we helped to change the lives of over 13,283,400 people in 34 countries around the world, all thanks to your generous donations and support.

We take the principles of amanah seriously. Our ethos is to treat each donation as your amanah that you give to us with the expectation that it will be used in the way intended.

This is why we ensure every penny donated is used as we have described.

One of our many volunteers, Mohammed Hamza, summarises it perfectly:

“I feel the responsibility to make sure that each and every donation reaches those who need it. We work hard to deliver to people in areas that many other organisations simply can’t reach. For me, this is an Amanah (trust) that supporters like you have placed in my hands.”

Shahr Ramadan is the best time to give Zakat because the rewards are doubled – or even tripled.

How your Zakat can Help in Shahr Ramadan

In the holy month of Ramadan, we will continue our work to provide food, water, and other essential aid where necessary:

  1. For £50 you will ensure one family eats iftar for the entire month of Ramadan
  2. For £80 you will ensure three families can drink clean water for iftar
  3. For £160 you will ensure two households can afford all the essentials for one month.

Ultimately, anything you give will contribute towards helping people who have very little to live on.

We hope you will continue supporting our life-saving work with your Zakat. Please donate as much or as little as possible to support more people this Ramadan.
