Ramadan 2023 is fast approaching.
As many of us look forward to this special time of blessings and community togetherness, it’s important for us to plan properly to have a Ramadan experience that enriches both our spiritual and material lives.
Check out these tips to prepare for Ramadan 2023:
1. Set clear intentions
A Muslim’s good deeds are always founded upon a pure, strong niyyah (also spelled niyah), or intention. One’s niyyah ensures the act of worship they perform is done for the right reasons and with optimal action.Â
When setting your Ramadan 2023 intentions, you can set both smaller intentions for each individual deed as well as major intentions that you wish to see through for the month of Ramadan 2023 as a whole.Â
Examples of strong Ramadan intentions can be to purify your soul with charity, eliminate negative habits or make extra effort to show those you love that you care. You can even list or expand upon these intentions in a personal niyyah journal as a creative way to stay motivated.Â
Ramadan 2023 can be a month when we go above and beyond in our worship, and this applies first and foremost to our intentions.Â
2. Make a balanced worship plan
After carefully setting your intentions, follow them up with a solid worship plan for Ramadan 2023.
Your worship plan can include goals for reading portions of the Quran, praying extra taraweeh prayers, making dua for those you care about, and giving your yearly zakat to causes that are important to you.Â
Your planning can even accommodate important occasions like weekly jumuah prayers, the last 10 nights of the month and Laylatul Qadr, or the Night of Power.
This planning should be a means of ease and a way for you to realign with your goals if you feel fatigued during the month.Â
3. Share the joy with your community and those in need
Most importantly, Ramadan is a time for the Muslim community to come together to support one another and celebrate the beautiful worship culture of our faith.
When we come together, we should remember to pray for each other and share iftar and taraweeh experiences as much as possible.Â
We should also remember our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering and cannot enjoy Ramadan the way we are blessed to. The effects of our charity are always multiplied spiritually during this month, and we should make Ramadan 2023 a month when we do our most for others.Â
We at Zakat Foundation of America wish you a blessed and happy Ramadan 2023 and are excited to share the month with you! Check our website for updates on what we have planned.Â
