Though it’s easy to get caught up in the buzz of the Eid prayer environment as you walk in and see your community at its best, the heart of the day belongs to the Eid prayer and khutbah.
Though it’s easy to get caught up in the buzz of the Eid prayer environment as you walk in and see your community at its best, the heart of the day belongs to the Eid prayer and khutbah.
As we all continue our long nights of taraweeh prayer and plan our worship for the last 10 nights, we also look forward to embracing the joy of Eid al-Fitr 2023.
Check out these tips to make Eid 2023 full of blessings and happiness:
1. Pay your Zakat al-Fitr
Zakat al-Fitr (also known as fitra or fitrana) is the alms given at the end of Ramadan, and it’s an obligation that does not depend on one’s wealth or age level.
Zakat al-Fitr is a specific charity designed to ensure the poor and underserved can celebrate on Eid morning just as their more privileged brothers and sisters do.
Most schools of thought in Islam agree that Zakat al-Fitr should be paid prior to Eid prayer, so it’s important to pay the night before or morning of if one hasn’t paid already during the month.
2. Prepare Early for Eid prayer
Make sure to get the rest of your dua and charity in before heading to bed and sleep early so you can feel refreshed for Eid prayer in the morning.
When you wake up, dress in your very best and head to Eid prayer with the intention to celebrate a month of worship and close your Ramadan deeds with positivity.
3. Focus on the Eid prayer and khutbah
Though it’s easy to get caught up in the buzz of the Eid prayer environment as you walk in and see your community at its best, the heart of the day belongs to the Eid prayer and khutbah.
When you line up for the Eid prayer, put all of your best intentions into ensuring the prayer will mark a blessed end to a month full of good deeds for you and your loved ones. When prayer is finished, make sure to make dua for the acceptance of your Ramadan worship and to be blessed with experiencing many Ramadans to come.
Concentrate on the words of the Eid khutbah and reflect on how Ramadan traditions in the time of the Companions, may God be pleased with them, have remained to this day. We are blessed to be a part of this tradition, and all our intentions and actions contribute to the thriving of our faith.
4. Celebrate with your loved ones and community
Enjoy the rest of your Eid 2023 with your loved ones as you reflect on a month of worship and good deeds!
We at Zakat Foundation of America wish you a happy and healthy Eid al-Fitr 2023. May God accept all of your efforts and charity from this past month of Ramadan 2023 and beyond. May you find the blessings from Ramadan in both this life and the hereafter.
