In November, we called for our readers to take part in a fundraiser to fund the “Great Ormond Street Hospital” (GOSH) children’s charity. This is a charity which seeks to support and undertake research related to children and young people’s cancer care. Further to this, it aimed to help build their research capacity within nursing and allied health across the Trust and supporting research for patient benefit.
The “Tower Rush 4 GOSH” challenge took place on Saturday 10th December 2016 with thirty-six participants coming together from the Muslim community, joined by an Ambassador from GOSH. The participants were challenged to complete the tower climb in the fastest time possible. This was co-ordinated with Total Motion Events and all participants were timed using state of the art chip-timing devices.
This was followed by weeks of fundraising, culminating in an Awards Ceremony held at The Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity offices on Thursday 12th January 2017, where the Race For Charity family proudly presented a cheque to GOSH, with the final fundraising figure currently standing at a very respectful £12,549.75.
Habibul Islam, Race For Charity Project Manager said, “This year we wanted to bring together participants from all across London to raise money and bring further awareness of GOSH and the amazing work that they do on a daily basis. We were all children once and many of us have children of our own, thus it was very important for us to seek an understanding and ensure we can help in giving the wonderful children at GOSH the best chance of getting better in order to fulfill their true potential in life.”
Race For Charity hopes that this year’s exceptional event was a seed planted and the first of many of these types of events to come in the near future from which fruitful beginnings will grow and allow both participants and charitable organisations to reap the rewards.
