What is a 100% Donation Policy?
When Muslims give charity, we fulfill a crucial aspect of our faith – sharing with those in need to promote Islam’s egalitarian vision for the world.
However, many Muslims are unaware that when they donate to charitable causes, a portion of their donation covers administrative expenses incurred by nonprofit organizations when disbursing relief.
If we want our money to do the most good, we should understand where it is going and have most of our donation money directly provide aid.
100% Donation Policies held by Muslim nonprofit organizations like the Zakat Foundation of America ensure that 100% of the money collected from donors goes towards those in need. Your donations directly provide food, water, health support, and more, as your contributions are put to maximum use.
100% Donation Programs You Should Know
Every one of Zakat Foundation of America’s programs is 100% zakat-eligible. Two programs in particular: Emergency Relief and Orphan Sponsorship dedicate 100% of every donation given down to the penny to these programs.
With our 100% Donation Policy, the entirety of your donation goes straight to those in need, while we entirely cover any administrative costs.
Emergency Relief
When climate disasters, natural catastrophes, or violent conflict strike, we bring aid directly, locally, to affected populations through our Emergency Relief Program.
We provide them wholesome, high nutrition food stores and drinkable water, supply them with protective shelter and bedding, give them daily hygiene essentials, send in expert medical providers, and more.
In 2020, we focused heavily on COVID-19 relief and providing food, shelter, and water to regions affected by natural disasters and conflict. For example, we provided testing, protection equipment, and hygiene kits to over 2 million people affected by the pandemic across the US, Africa, the Middle East, and Argentina. We also provided emergency food and water to Kashmir, Ethiopia, India, and Pakistan, which had been affected by heavy conflict and supply shortages.
Through applying both broad and deep approaches in administering our 100% Donation Policy for Emergency Relief, we strive to give swift, quality aid to those who need it most and with no added cost for our donors.
Individual Orphan Sponsorship
The world’s current orphan population is estimated to be at least 153 million. Having lost one or both parents, these children desperately need food, education, and hygiene support.
The second of our 100% Donation Policy programs, Orphan Care, aims to provide these basic necessities for orphans in over ten countries.
A sponsored orphan receives nutritious food, clean clothing, educational opportunities, and comprehensive healthcare through a monthly or yearly donation rate. The orphan’s sponsor can also elect to receive annual reports, including the orphan’s photos and updates on their health and education progress.
Over 6,000 orphans in 15 countries were sponsored this past year, and we are committed to continuing serving needy orphans through excellent sponsorship care.
