Will Smith calls Donald Trump ‘evil’ and invites Middle Eastern filmmakers to shape their own narrative (video)

Amidst mixed reviews on the success – or lack thereof – of the new DC movie Suicide Squad, Will Smith describes how he prepared for his inherently evil character by studying comments issued by Presidential candidate, Donald Trump.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, he jokes, “what makes someone evil is they don’t think they’re evil… They actually think it’s okay to call a woman a fat pig on television. They think it’s okay.” Here he refers to Trump calling Rosie O’Donnell a ‘fat pig’ during a Republican debate. He continues to share his views on the candidate, and how it is important to “speak out about the insanity,” of his campaign, following from his previous comments that if Trump doesn’t stand down, he will be forced to run for Presidency himself.

With all this though, while promoting his movie in Dubai, he suggests that it is the best time to counter the anti-Muslim climate left in the wake of the presidential race and to combat Islamophobia. During his stay, he encouraged local film makers and producers to reclaim their histories and retell their own stories to the world.

“The Middle East can’t allow Fox News to be the arbiter of the imagery, you know. So cinema is a huge way to be able to deliver the truth of the soul of a place to a global audience,” he said.
