We all want to live a successful life. Whether you’re looking for success at work, exams, in deen or for personal development, here are 9 duas to recite to help you reach your goals!
As Muslims, we must do everything in our capacity to achieve success in life, whether that is success at school, work or our non-professional goals.
Where our capacity ends, Allah’s (SWT) grace begins. We shouldn’t forget to seek God’s help in whatever we try to achieve. As the saying goes: work as if it all depends on you, and pray as if it all depends on God.
Here are 9 duas you can recite for success in different areas of your life.
Dua for Success in Attaining Knowledge
Our sustenance in life: money, kids, and health are pre-determined, but knowledge isn’t. It is entirely up to us to earn knowledge. Whether you’re studying at school, college, university or somewhere else. You might be trying to acquire religious knowledge or anything that aids your personal or spiritual development. Recite the following short but impactful dua for an increase in knowledge:
Rabbi Zidni Ilma
Oh my Lord, increase me in knowledge!”
[20:114]
At the same time, not all knowledge is good for us. We may be unknowingly or ignorantly acquiring knowledge that is useless or – worse – harmful. It’s important to ask God to guide us in acquiring knowledge that helps us in the dunya and akhira with the following dua:
Allahumma inni audhibika min ilmin la yanfa’
Oh Allah, I surely seek your protection against knowledge that does not avail.”
[excerpt of a dua recommended to be recited after asr prayer]
Dua for Success in Business
Have you opened up your own business? Congratulations! Being self-employed has many benefits and is a recommended practice in Islam. Here is a dua you can recite daily whenever you open your shop/office/premises:
Allaahumma innee as-aluka min khayrihaa wa khayri ahlihaa wa a-o’od’u bika min sharrihaawa shaari ahlihaa
Oh Allah, I surely seek good for me and good for my family and I seek refuge in you from evil to me and my family.”
Dua for Increased Sustenance
We need sustenance to help us navigate this dunya and to provide for ourselves and our families. It’s important to not become greedy for wealth, yet we need a portion of health to live a good life. Most importantly, the sustenance needs to be lawful:
Allaahumma innee as-aluka rizqan waasi-an t’ayyibban min rizqika
O Allah, I beseech You for sustenance – abundant, good and lawful-from the sustenance You own.
The key part of this dua is acknowledging that God owns all sustenance. This should prevent us from despairing of a lack of sustenance or being tempted to seek it from haram means.
Dua for a Successful Marriage
At a certain age, we will wish to get married. Finding a good spouse is tough but not impossible, for nothing is impossible for Allah (SWT):
Allahumma Innee Urreedu An Atazawwaja Faqaddir Lee Minan Nisaa-I Ai fihunna Farjajan wa AhĂŻ fadhĂŻ hunna Lee Fee Nafsihaa Wa Awsa-i-Hunna Lee Rizwan Wa A-dhamahunna Lee Barakatan Fee Nafsihaa Wa Maaleee Faqaddir Lee Minhaa Waladan Tayyiban Tajaluhoo Khalafan Saalihan Fee Hayaatee Wa Ba`da Mawtee.
Allah! I desire to marry, so arrange for me a woman from those who willingly abstain from what is unlawful and who safeguards her soul for my sake and because of her, not only my means of sustenance will increase, but also make there be in it abundance and also make it sure that she will give me a virtuous son, who will be a noble successor in my life and after my death.”
If you are a female, you can change the wording in the appropriate places.
Dua to for a Succesful Pregnancy
May Allah (SWT) make it easy on all the couples attempting to conceive their child. It’s important for both the man and woman to get their bodies ready to conceive to maximise the chances of conceiving a healthy baby. Beyond that, the matter is in the hands of God. Here’s a dua recited by Prophet Zachariah. In return, he was gifted Prophet Yahya.
Lord, from Your grace grant me virtuous offspring: You hear every prayer.”
[3:38]
Dua for Good Health
If you need a dua for good health. Here is one transmitted from Abdur Rahman ibn AbuBakrah who said that he told his father:
O my father! I hear you supplicating every morning: “O Allah! Grant me health in my body. O Allah! Grant me good hearing. O Allah! Grant me good eyesight. There is no god but Thou.”
[Sunan Abu Dawud]
He (the father)said: I heard the Messenger of Allah using these words as a supplication, and I like to follow his practice.
Dua for Success in Deen
Undoubtedly living and – more importantly – dying a Muslim is the pinnacle of success and is the only thing that matters when everything is said and done. Dying on the path of Islam is the most important thing a person can do. Here is a dua for strong imaan/faith:
Radeetu billahi rabban wabil-islami deenan wabiMuhammadin peace be upon to him nabiyya.
I am pleased with Allah as a Lord, and Islam as a religion and Muhammad peace be upon to him as a Prophet.”
Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower.”[3:8]
Wama tawfeeqee illa billahiAAalayhi tawakkaltu wa-ilayhi oneeb
My success is not but through Allah. Upon him I have relied, and to Him I return.”
[11:88]
