27 killed in a bomb blast at a Shia mosque in Kabul

At least 27 people were killed and more than 35 injured in a bomb blast in the Afghanistan capital, Kabul. A suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest detonated himself after entering the Shia mosque in the Dar ul Aman region of Kabul this morning.

Today marks 40 days after the martyrdom of Hussain ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) and many were gathered at the Baqir-ul Ulom mosque to commemorate the event. Reports of those targetted in the blast include women and children.

The chief of the Kabul police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Fraidoon Obaidi, said that at least 27 people were killed and 35 wounded when blast hit the worshippers gathered in the mosque. The number of casualties is likely to rise.

No terror organisation has claimed responsibility for the blast yet.
