‘Dirty Arabs’: Two Muslim Women Stabbed in Paris in an Underreported Islamophobic Attack

As France continues to struggle under hypocritical notions of liberty (from what?), equality (for whom?), and fraternity (with who?), the country’s five million-plus Muslims continue to feel neglected, abused, and targetted by a systematically Islamophobic government.

In a worryingly underreported attack, two Muslim women were repeatedly stabbed under the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Sunday night. Following the gruesome beheading of a teacher in the Paris suburbs by a radical extremist last Friday after the teacher showed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed to a class, France is on edge as tensions continue to rise.

French police have reportedly arrested two white female suspects, who shouted “dirty Arabs” as the repeatedly stabbed the two Muslim women. The suspects are currently being held on suspicion of attempted murder. The two victims, French women from an Algerian background, have been named only as Kenza, 49, and Amel, in her early 40’s. Kenza was reportedly stabbed six times and is in the hospital with a punctured lung.

Initially, no official information was released about the attack – which has led many to raise the issue of France’s blatant Islamophobia in almost every level of society. While the rightful media frenzy around the schoolteacher’s murder engrossed the nation around “radical Islam”, there was pointedly little to no coverage on this horrifying Islamophobic attack – was it because the victims were Muslim or because it would seem sympathetic to “radical Islam” if the innocent women were offered support and condolences?

While the attack happened on Sunday night, it was not until Tuesday that French police issued a public statement on the incident. While the investigation is still ongoing, French President Emmanuel Macron is currently preparing to lead a National Hommage to the murdered schoolteacher, Samuel Paty, and has of yet not made a comment on this most recent Islamophobic attack.
