Gang in Dublin attack Muslim girl with friends, ripping off her hijab and pelting them with eggs

A cellphone video has emerged showing a horrifying attack on a Muslim teenager in south Dublin being attacked by a teenage gang, who allegedly ripped off her hijab, physically attacked, and pelted the girl and her friends with eggs.
The young 14-year old was walking with her friend and a cousin in Dundrum village in south Dublin when the attack happened. Video footage shows the Muslim girl and her cousin engaged in a scuffle with screams, with eggs with thrown at them. The sister of the victim, who first uploaded the video, wrote alongside the video:
My sister and my cousin were attacked yesterday evening in Dundrum village. I can’t believe this! I am so disgusted and angry that I was not there to protect them. Please help share this to find these sc*mbags to prosecute them and bring them to justice…They remove [sic] my cousins hijab and kick her while she is down then attack my sister and bring her to the ground to kick her! This should not be happening to anyone no matter [sic] who they are! What world do we live in!!!”
In the video, someone can be heard screaming “get off of her” and “she’s only a child” before the phone is thrown on the ground, picked up only later after the attack appears quiets down. It appears that a few bystanders rushed in to help the girls.

Culture and Heritage Minister Josepha Madigan quickly condemned the attack, calling for the perpetrators to be “brought to justice quickly”. Gardai, the Irish state police force, have confirmed that the attack did happen on Sunday, and are currently investigating the attack. No arrests have been made, however the investigation is still ongoing.

Crimes like this only reinforce why it has become so incredibly important for Islamophobia to be rooted out at the state level as well. With the rise in neo-fascist and neo-nazi ideologies, innocent victims like the young girls in south Dublin continue to be vilified and attacked, swept up in the rising state-sponsored divisive politics of Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and right-wing rhetoric.
