Labour party commits to suspending arms sales to Israel and Saudi Arabia if elected

The UK’s main opposition party, the Labour party, has revealed in its new manifesto that it is committed to halting all arms sales to Israel and Saudi Arabia should it win the historical general election this December.

Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn on Thursday called this new manifesto “the most radical and ambitious plan to transform our country for decades”. The manifesto states that if the party wins the general election, the Labour government would immediately suspend the arms sales that it claims goes towards aiding countries like Saudi Arabia and Israel in the killing of innocent civilians.

Claiming that the current arms sales aids in the “violation of human rights”, the Labour party stated:

Ministers can never again turn a blind-eye to British-made weapons being used to target innocent civilians.”

The newly revealed manifesto also mentions and recognizes the legacy of the violence of colonial rule, committing to “an audit of the impact of Britain’s colonial legacy”. After years of grassroots and public pressure, especially from the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, the Labour Party has made small steps to address the issues of Palestinian statehood, restoration of rights, and recognition of Israel’s illegal settlement colonization.

Jeremy Corbyn has also been subject to carefully orchestrated attempts as painting him and the Labour party as anti-Semitic, something of which he has continuously worked to deny and stand up against. As the historical general election comes closer, many have also begun to point towards the Conservative party’s historic ties to xenophobia and Islamophobia, something of which the current Prime Minister Boris Johnson is heavily accused of.
