Earlier this week MPACUK issued an action alert about The Peace Institute, an organisation of reputable Muslims scholars, who had organised an event in Dewsbury in relation to the recent Westminster attack.
The event was extremely apologetic in nature and was providing the toxic, flawed Prevent strategy with a platform.
Thanks to pressure from Muslims actioning MPACUK’s alert, local activists and Muslim scholars, the event has been cancelled!
One of the first people to step back from the event was Maulana Margoob, the Imam of Masjid Taleem Ul Quran, who did not realise that the event was providing Prevent with a platform.
We thank the Maulana for taking this critical step and standing up for the Muslim community.
MPACUK would also like to thank all those that put pressure on the Peace Institute for organising this event – it goes to show that organised campaigning works.
Finally, thank you to the Peace Institute for not ignoring the concerns of the Muslim community and reflecting our will – that we do not want anything to do with Prevent.
Commenting on this campaign victory, MPACUK spokesman Raza Nadim, said:
“We did not expect to see so much anger from the largely apolitical Muslim community in Dewsbury, with regards to this event. This just goes to prove, once again, just how much Prevent is disliked and mistrusted within every section of the Muslim community. Prevent must be completely scrapped if the Government is to start building any real relationship with British Muslims.
This also goes to show that any Muslim that chooses to legitimise Prevent in any way will lose all credibility and support. Let this be a warning to those who choose the Government and Prevent over Muslims.”
This is not the first time MPACUK has had successes in campaigning against Prevent. Previously, we forced Impero Software to remove MPACUK spokesman Raza Nadim’s name from their PREVENT-based “extremist” search engine (that Quilliam helped them compile) – they also apologised & removed the names of EVERY other Muslim speaker on their software.
Also, following a MPACUK campaign, Hampshire Police were forced to apologise & stop using a MPACUK video in Prevent training due to the barrage of Muslim calls and emails
Our win is your win.
MPACUK’s victories show Islamophobes that Muslims are no pushovers and we will not tolerate being treated like second-class citizens. We know how to defend the community & are working daily to stand up for our rights but we need your support to keep doing so!
