What is Visit My Mosque day?

#VisitMyMosque day is a national initiative facilitated by the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), where over 100 mosques across the UK are holding open days to welcome in their neighbours from all faiths and none. Thousands of Britons will have the opportunity to see the true face of Islam and Muslims in the UK.

The next #VisitMyMosque day is planned for Sunday 5 February 2017.

What are the aims?

Visit My Mosque day aims to:

  1. Encourage all mosques in Britain to hold an open day at least once per year
  2. Foster better community relations and community cohesion for the good of society as a whole
  3. Work for a more enlightened appreciation of Islam and Muslims in the wider society
  4. Work to reduce misconceptions about Islam and Muslims in Britain.
  5. Celebrate the vast array of charitable, outreach and social action projects performed by mosques in Britain.

When did it start?

#VisitMyMosque was first conceived in February 2015 with about 20 mosques taking part.

Answering to popular demand, it ran again in February 2016, this time expanding to over 80 mosques, including those in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland taking part. This year also saw increased press coverage in national and regional media, as well as social media via #VisitMyMosque

Now in its third year, #VisitMyMosque 2017 is planned to continue as an annual initiative attracting more mosques and visitors each year and shining a spotlight on how mosques help their local community.

Its not too late sign up your mosque for #VisitMyMosque Day 2017. We have extended the deadline to this Sunday 15 January to make sure that nobody misses out! Join over 100+ mosques who have already registered.
