But what if there was streetwear that did more than giving Muslims an identity? What if the fashion you wore saved lives?
But what if there was streetwear that did more than giving Muslims an identity? What if the fashion you wore saved lives?
What does Islam have to do with fashion? While it may seem diametrically opposed to some, the two have been interrelated since the beginning of Islam.
In our faith, clothing is considered a gift from God. In the Quran, it says:
“O children of Adam! We have provided for you clothing to cover your nakedness and as an adornment. However, the best clothing is righteousness. This is one of Allah’s bounties, so perhaps you will be mindful” [Quran 7:26].
Our tradition views clothing not just as a means to cover nakedness, but that it can be used to enhance beauty, too. Most recently, with the advent of social media, we have seen Muslims adopt global trends to suit the needs of their faith.
From streetwear to couture, Muslims have shown their faith in fashion with pride. Seeing a lack of representation of Muslims and Islam in streetwear, we have witnessed Muslim-centric streetwear brands take off and resonate with Muslims. An intrinsic element of Muslim streetwear is that it conveys the wearer’s core values and beliefs.
But what if there was streetwear that did more than giving Muslims an identity?
What if the fashion you wore saved lives? At Zakat Foundation of America, we are saving lives and helping people every single day. We wanted to revive the Prophetic spirit of serving humanity.
Introducing the Hubb (Love) Shirt
This is why we partnered with calligraphy artist Qasim Arif (known as ILLM) to offer a statement piece that Muslims can wear to show their love of humanity on their sleeves (literally). Every penny of your purchase goes to programmatic work that helps those most vulnerable.
He worked to create a bespoke design that is inspired by the compelling hadith of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad, on him be peace:
“None of you truly believe until you love for another what you love for yourself.”
All proceeds go toward our programmatic work — so 100% of every purchase of the Hubb shirt:
- Supports an orphan for a month
- Sends a girl to school for one semester
- Feeds an impoverished family of five
- Helps provides fresh, clean water to an entire village
Your purchase is powerful. Why not use it to empower those in need?
