October 20th will see the film premier launch at Cineworld O2 in Greenwich, London for the finale of Corner Shop Show, the online comedy series that has taken YouTube by storm. The series, starring London born British-Bangladeshi Islah Abdur-Rahman and British-Chinese actor Micheal Truong, will include a host of some of the most influential British Asian YouTubers as well.
“Corner Shop: Thank You, Come Again” will be the finale to a six-year long project that has grown from a small idea to a widely popular comedy series, with it being the first time that so many UK influencers are coming together to feature in a British film.
YouTubers such as ‘Humza Arshad’, ‘Brown Girl Problems’, ‘Modest Street’, ‘Amber Doig-Thorne’, and ‘Sonna Rele’ will all be a part of this hilarious series finale, collectively bringing together millions of followers. The series has long been praised for its focus on real-life issues, such as knife crime, gentrification, mental health, and family issues.
The storyline of the film is based around the life of character Malik, played by Islah Abdur-Rahman, who struggles after being left in charge of his father’s local corner shop. Now with his sister’s wedding coming up, the finale follows him and his friends as they attempt to both plan the wedding as well as stop the local mayor from shutting down all the shops on the High Street for a new shopping center.
Islah Abdur-Rahman not only enjoys filming and acting with his Corner Shop success, but also focuses on giving back to the community at large. With the success of his comedy series, Islah has been able to run his family operated charity business as well:
Young people approach me to say they ‘grew up with the series’ or it helped them laugh through hard times and it’s such an amazing feeling being part of someones life in that way! I’ve also used my YouTube platform to raise awareness for my family run charity The Al-Ansari Foundation based in East Africa, Zanzibar. With a 100% donations policy, I then travelled out there to help build them and visited all the orphans. Corner Shop Show has opened many doors for my career and creatives who have worked alongside me.”
While the finale will be launched in a full length film episode on the 27th of October, the finale will have two public screenings as part of the premiere. The Red Carpet Launch Premiere will be held on the 20th of October at Cineworld in the o2 Arena in Greenwich, from 5:30 to 8:30PM with general admission free. The second screening will be on the 25th of October at the Courthouse Hotel (19-21 Great Marlborough Street, London W1F 7HL) from 6:00-9:00PM, with tickets at £15 (all proceeds will go towards charity).
