There are approximately 153 million children worldwide who are orphans. That’s millions of young children who need safe, loving environments and support to access their basic rights of education, healthcare, food and shelter. Thousands of children are made orphans every day and left feeling alone, frightened and without hope for their future.
With Penny Appeal, for just 70p a day you can support an orphan to become Hafiz of Hafizah of the Qur’an.
6-year-old Juma’s life was turned upside down when both her parents died. Growing up in Gambia without the love and affection of a mother or father has meant life has been filled with emptiness and sorrow.
She lives alone with her elderly aunt and they’ve both struggled to get by.
Alhamdulillah, with your support, we’ve enrolled Juma on our Hifz Orphan programme, where she’ll receive a priceless education by qualified teachers.

Hifz classes are small and led by experienced teachers using modern techniques with a child centric approach that focusses on the individual child’s progress and unique rate of learning because every child is different and every child matters. The programmes last between 3 and 6 years, depending on the time the child requires for learning. All children are provided with nutritious meals each day, new clothes, healthcare and a dedicated guardian all in a loving, caring family environment. Beyond the programme, children are given additional support to continue in Islamic or mainstream education, or to start a suitable apprenticeship.

The Prophet Muhammad (saw), was an orphan himself, and loved orphans. He taught us to care for orphans, and the rewards of doing so are immeasurable. The Prophet (saw) was reported to have said: “The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers up together to illustrate.
