Sheikh Nurayn Muhammad Siddique, a well-renowned Quran reciter made famous by his distinctive way of reading the Quran, has sadly passed away in a car accident in the Omdurman area of his home country of Sudan. Beloved across the world, Sheikh Nurayn was easily one of the most accomplished Quran reciters of today – and has inspired countless people across the world.

The tragic car accident, which also saw three of his companions killed, was confirmed by Sudan’s Minister of Religious Affairs Nasruddin Mufri, who also expressed deep sorrow at the loss of life. People have been taking to Twitter to express their shock and sadness at Sheikh Nurayn’s passing, citing how he continues to inspire people around the world even after his death:

Sheikh Nurayn, who was 38, was born in the Umm Dam locality in North Kordofan State in Sudan in 1982, and began memorizing the Quran with Khalawi sheikhs in the Bara district of North Kordofan – finally memorizing the Quran at the age of 17. He also joined the Islamic Holy Quran University, where he graduated.

After receiving the authorization of reading from Al-Azhar in 2008, Sheikh Nurayn also became involved in advocacy work and worked as the imam at the Khartoum Grand Mosque, the Al-Nour Mosque, and a number of other prominent mosques across the capital of Khartoum. Sheikh Nurayn had also participated in numerous Quran competitions across the world, representing his home country of Sudan. Most notably, he won third prize in international competitions held in Malaysia and Dubai, second prize in the King Abdulaziz Prize in Saudi Arabia in 2005, and second prize again the Libyan competitions in 2006.
