Yemeni mother Shaima Swileh was allowed to see her dying son after fighting US immigration authorities for over a year to be allowed to enter the country.
The boy’s father, Ali Hassan, is a US citizen living in America. His son, Abdullah, is suffering from a genetic brain disorder and was brought to California for medical care and eventually put on life support.
Hassan married Swileh in 2016 and had been trying to get her a visa so she could join him in America. But Swileh required a waiver, as citizens of Yemen and four other mostly Muslim countries are barred from entering the United States under Trump’s travel ban.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations sued the United States and after a legal battle that lasted over a year, Swileh was granted a visa.
