Israel’s bombing of schools, hospitals, ambulances, and historical places of worship, and its indiscriminate killing of children have broken all rules of war. Israel is, by definition, eradicating an entire group of people for being Palestinian.

As the world continues to watch Israel conduct genocide against the Palestinians, the number of those killed in Gaza has surpassed 10,000. More than 4,000 of these deaths are children and babies.

We must continue to carefully watch what kind of language is being used by both politicians and the media, as we also continue to show our support for Palestine.

Let us be clear: this is not a “war” between Israel and Gaza. Gaza is not an official state, it is an occupied entity with a people who have been suffering under apartheid long before October 7th.

Gaza is defending itself against a calculated, coordinated, and oppressive state that is bent on suppressing all freedom and dignity for the Palestinian people. And as a result, Israel’s recent bombardment of Gaza has shown the world what is truly happening: a genocide.

Israel’s bombing of schools, hospitals, ambulances, and historical places of worship, and its indiscriminate killing of children have broken all rules of war. Israel is, by definition, eradicating an entire group of people for being Palestinian. If this is not a clear case of genocide, then international law and international humanitarian rights mean nothing.

So as we continue to show our support for Palestine, for a cease-fire, and for the complete freedom of Palestine, let us also remember to call out problematic language and the framing of conversations around Israel and Gaza – this is not a “war”. This is a genocide.
