As the new year dawns on the world, we mustn’t forget the horrors of the last few months in Gaza.
Witnessing a blatant genocide has traumatized – and yet renewed – the world’s sense of duty towards showing solidarity towards Palestine.
Despite many world leaders continuing to show support for Israel and its massacre, we have also witnessed the people of the world coming together to protest against Israel’s war crimes.
And as we begin a new year, we must continue to fight for Palestine. We must continue to fight for their freedom, dignity, and right to live without the genocidal oppression of Israel.
The numbers of those displaced, killed, and wounded are already enough to shock the world. And as we continue to watch this genocide being live-streamed, with the images, videos, and live reports only reinforcing the horrifying statistics, the world remains both complacent and moved to duty by what is happening in Gaza.
We remain complacent in many cases when we allow our silence to speak louder than our condemnations – but we’ve also seen the world moved to a sense of duty in showing solidarity and support for Palestine as well.
This sense of duty must be protected, renewed, and supported to showcase an even stronger front in our support for Palestine. We’ve seen how this sense of duty has literally changed the world’s view on what is happening in Palestine – from boycotts making tangible damages, to the massive and unprecedented protests, to government officials resigning and even speaking out – there is still hope, despite how little it may seem at times, in freeing Palestine once and for all.
As we allow ourselves to get swept up into new resolutions and commitments for the new year, let us hope that among those many wishes and hopes we continue to keep Palestine at the forefront of our actions, prayers, and hearts.
