A Poem From My 10-Year-Old Daughter to Our Palestinian Family

May we continue to teach our children and raise our children to live in a world full of kindness, hope, and peace.

May we continue to teach our children and raise our children to live in a world full of kindness, hope, and peace.

I just wanted to share a poem my daughter wrote for Palestine. I tried to help her channel her frustrations into something positive, by encouraging her to use her words to inspire others.

She has written many poems but this one on Palestine is, in my opinion, her best one as it reflects a depth of maturity and understanding of a complex matter — articulately written in prose.

May we continue to teach our children and raise our children to live in a world full of kindness, hope, and peace.

For Palestine

In this war-stricken territory,
There is hardly any chance to survive,
Children are murdered mercilessly,
People are burned alive.
No proper graves for the dead,
No water and no bread.
Their leaders insist that children are terrorists,
Yet the amount of our martyrs is a never-ending list.

Even more people are dying every day,
And the injustice is making me feel sick,
Knowing the only weapons they can use,
Are pebbles, stones, and sticks.

Everyone is ignoring the truth for lies,
Funding wars to kill people they despise,
Senseless slaughter, torture,
bombing and genocide,
Yet somehow every murder is justified.

More bombs drop before we could blink,
No safe place to take cover,
No time to run or think.
The rich people are sipping tea,
As thousands of people die,
“They are human animals,” they tweet,
While turning a blind eye.

From far the cowards drop their bombs,
But little do they know,
One day Palestine WILL be free,
And the truth will finally be shown.

NO,
We can’t and won’t give up,
Especially not now,
Someday perpetrators will be unveiled,
And at long last, justice will prevail.

We CAN end this genocide,
And one day, we won’t have to hide,
From the river to the sea,
Palestine will be free!
