Israel has killed almost three Palestinians a week in 2019 alone

The World Health Organization also stated that only 18% of those along the Gaza-Israel border were approved for medical treatment in Israel, meaning that 82% of Palestinians in Gaza who applied for medical aid across the border were denied their right to safe and adequate medical assistance and care.

According to a new report, the total number of Palestinians recorded to have been killed by Israeli security forces this year is around 132 people – which means that on average Israel has killed around 3 Palestinians per week in 2019 alone. Compared to other years, this year Palestinians were 13 times more likely to be killed than Israelis.

This total number of Palestinians who have been killed, however, does not include those who have died while in custody in Israeli jails. Reportedly at least five Palestinians have died while in Israeli prisons – but again, this might not include the full number of those who were unable to reach medical facilities in time because of Israeli checkpoints and border control, therefore succumbing to their injuries or illnesses. Israel’s restrictions of movements across the West Bank and Gaza is a major factor in many Palestinian deaths because they are simply unable to receive help in time.

The World Health Organization reported this year that Israel approved barely 58% of the more than 1,750 applications by Palestinians seeking medical treatment in both Gaza and the West Bank – meaning a large portion of those who are forced to apply for medical help because of Israel’s blockaid were stopped from receiving adequate medical help.

The WHO also stated that for those in Gaza it becomes worse – only 18% of those along the Gaza-Israel border were approved for medical treatment in Israel, meaning that 82% of Palestinians in Gaza who applied for medical aid across the border were denied their right to safe and adequate medical assistance and care.

Constantly being forced to apply for medical treatment, as well as travel permissions from Israel, many Palestinians continue to suffer under Israel’s apartheid regime. As Israel continues to implement a systematic and abusive system of colonization in the occupied Palestinian lands, those most vulnerable suffer the most. These new statistics point towards a horrifying reality for Palestinians in both the West Bank and Gaza today – that if on average three Palestinians are dying per week without the world’s outrage and condemnation, the next year seems bleak at best.
