The biggest Palestinian event in Europe is coming to London next weekend on the 6th and 7th of July in Olympia. The Palestine Expo, which drew more than 15,000 people for its debut in 2017, is a celebration of Palestinian culture, heritage, arts, and food. Listen to our podcast here for more details on the event and the many issues surrounding the support of Palestine:
This event, sponsored by Friends of Al-Aqsa, a UK based non-profit passionate about defending the human rights of Palestinians and protecting the Al-Aqsa sanctuary in Jerusalem, hopes to foster dialogue and discussion around activism in the UK about Palestine.
Hosting numerous different activities, including interactive installations, conferences, cultural performances, a tech hub, an art gallery, a kid’s village, and a shopping and exhibit quarter, this year’s Palestine Expo plans to host a wide array of activities to help bring the Palestinian spirit to London.
The interactive installations include activities around BDS, Palestinian child prisoners, water disparity in the region, Israeli checkpoints, the Apartheid wall, and Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory. Cultural performances include Palestinian dabke dancing, examples of Palestinian wedding traditions, Bedouin coffee workshops, and interactive date picking.
In addition to all of this, the two-day long conference will also be hosting notable activists, authors, politicians, and dissidents, including South African MP and Nelson Mandela’s grandson Zwelivelile Mandela, former director of Al-Jazeera Wadah Khanfar, Israel’s Haaretz journalist Gideon Levy, and Palestinian activists Issa Amro and Claire Anastas from Bethlehem, whose homes were surround by apartheid wall. The Muslim Vibe’s Chief Editor Salim Kassam will also be a guest speaker, discussing mainstream media and Palestine.
A celebration of Palestinian heritage as well as bringing awareness to the humanitarian issues facing those in Palestine today, the Palestine Expo hopes to both build bridges and encourage dialogue around one of the most pressing issues in modern history.
