Bay Area Halal Foodies presents the 2nd Black Muslim Food Week, from February 25-28, 2022!
Bay Area Halal Foodies are now preparing their palates for Black Muslim Food Week!
For an entire weekend, from February 25th to the 28th, Black-owned Halal restaurants and food vendors will be featured in an event coordinated by Jabir Faqir, founder of Ansar Partners, Irfan Rydhan, founder of Halalfest, and Abbas Mohamed, founder of the BAHF Facebook Group (20,000+ members).
This restaurant week focuses on uplifting Black Muslim-owned food businesses that sell Halal food i.e. prepared in accordance with Islamic dietary principles. In addition, the festival will conclude with a day of community fasting and fundraising for Mu’eed’s “Eating Rights” program, a program dedicated to delivering free Halal food to the City of Oakland’s seniors, unhoused, and disabled residents.
Each day will feature Black-Owned Halal food vendors, such as Cafe Salaam food truck out of Oakland, Somali restaurant Jubba in San Jose, and East Bay’s own Papa’s Bean Pies. The full schedule of vendors, and their special offers for Black Muslim Food Week, is posted in the BAHF Facebook group.
The weekend of feasting will culminate with a pop-up event at Ta’leef Collective in Fremont, CA. There will be food trucks, dessert vendors, and a fundraiser for Mu’eed’s “Eating Rights”.
Combining Black History Month, great food, and supporting organizations doing good works in local communities, Black Muslim Food Week is a way to harness the positive impact of our collective foodie community. Partnering with Halalfest, The Artistic Foodies podcast, and Ta’leef Collective, as well as the support of the Bay Area community, this event is definitely not one to miss!
